Power of the Pen - Writing for Wellbeing

Date: Sunday 2nd May, 2021

Time: 10am-12 pm

Location: Artspace Pop Up Gallery, The Entrance ( next door to The Entrance Library)

In this workshop, award-winning writer M.J. (Michelle) Reidy will introduce you to different forms of expressive writing, focusing on how the writing process can have positive impacts on your mental health.  Participants will be given some fun and innovative practical exercises to take with them and try at home. This workshop is for anyone who’d like to learn more about the connection between creativity and wellbeing, discovering how writing for yourself can keep you sane in an increasingly insane world.

This is a practical and fun workshop where you will be encouraged to write freely and reflect on the writing process. No writing experience is necessary to participate. This workshop is for anyone who'd like to incorporate a more regular writing practise into their daily routine.

You will learn:

-The 'rules' of freewriting

-Using writing prompts/strategies to write quickly and freely

-Strategies to tap into your creativity with ease.

- Strategies to overcome the inner critic that says 'I can't write!".

-You will sample different forms of expressive writing to help you express yourself freely on the page, reflecting on their potential therapeutic benefits.

- You will receive a handout with different exercises you can try at home.

Please bring:

A sense of curiosity, pen and notepad. Please refrain from bringing a laptop as handwriting helps to enhance creativity. :) Please arrive 10-15 minutes prior to workshop commencing as we kick off at 10am sharp.
